A new state-of-the-art Medical Mall facility provides a fully equipped home for this nurse-managed clinic under the auspices of Northern Virginia Community College. Nurse practitioner faculty and students have been serving uninsured patients in four community clinics, but limited hours and resources cannot keep pace with the rapidly growing population of immigrant and low-income residents. Clinical staff, community providers and allied health faculty and students will offer comprehensive primary, specialty and dental care. A bilingual social worker and an outreach worker will enhance cultural appropriateness for patients and add to the service learning experience for students in the health professions.

Protect Our Kids - Preventing Exposure to Violence
Hampton, VA

Children's exposure to violence at home, at school, or in the neighborhood, is the single most powerful risk factor for generating violent individuals in our culture. Protect Our Kids, a non-profit grant-funded program available through Transitions Family Violence Services, offers assessment, information and referral services to Hampton children who've witnessed violence. Protect Our Kids also leads a community education campaign to increase awareness of problems associated with children's exposure to violence and to positively change the community's attitudes to preventing children's exposure to violence.
