To reduce obesity three rural Mississippi school districts and a local community college will incorporate a healthy lifestyle curriculum in every grade from pre-kindergarten to senior year. Maintaining an emphasis on physical activity and food choices culminates with ninth graders developing personal wellness plans and working with wellness trainers throughout high school. The initiative also targets 600 educators and school support staff who serve as key role models. A highly committed funding partner, the Lower Pearl River Valley Foundation, convened the school and community leaders and worked with them to develop this countywide effort.
