Building Community Bridges: A Continuing Care Program in Pulaski County, Arkansas
Little Rock, AR

Arkansas CARES is a residential program where mothers struggling with addiction and dual diagnoses can bring their children into treatment with them. While seventy percent of participating women have remained drug-free one year after discharge, the lesson learned is the need for a bridging program to help some women avoid relapse once they leave intensive treatment. This project enjoys exceptional community support from higher education, the county, philanthropy, treatment providers, business and faith-based groups. The mothers and their children will continue to receive counseling and transitional housing augmented by individualized case management, training in traditional and non-traditional careers, day care and other needed services to assist them in all aspects of reintegration into the community.
