Role of Funding Partners

Since 1988, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Local Funding Partnerships (LFP) has collaborated with more than 1,200 local grantmakers to support innovative, community-based health and health care projects.

Although one grantmaker assumes the liaison role with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and writes the letter of nomination for a proposed project, typically multiple funders contribute to achieve the total required matching dollars over the life of an LFP grant.

In addition to the foundations defined at grantmaking organizations, including independent and private foundations, family and community foundations, corporate foundations and other philanthropies; matching funds may also come from endowments, individual benefactors, religious groups, special fundraising entities and others.

For the LFP Annual Grantmaking program, any of these funders may serve as the Nominating Funding Partner. For the LFP Special Solicitation program, any of these grantmakers may contribute matching dollars but the letter of nomination must come from a Diversity-Focused Funder.
